First Haul Post! End February Goodies!

Since February, which happens to be my favorite month of the year, is drawing to a close I wanted to post my last haul of polish that was bought this month. I bought all the polish in this haul from Sally Beauty and Walmart.

Sally had a sale on China Glaze polish where they were each a dollar off and I definitely could not pass up that offer! I picked up China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy which is a neon orange pink color... I am a sucker for neon colors! China Glaze For Audrey is a color I had been hearing a lot about.  It is the Tiffany blue box color, which I love.  I almost did not buy it because I have another color that is very similar, but I am glad that I did because it is such a great color.  (Keep posted for a comparison swatch blog!!) China Glaze Reagge To Riches is a beautiful purple pink duo chrome.  China Glaze Ingrid is a light brown with a bronze gold shimmer. And last but not least China Glaze Latticed Lilac is a metallic light purple crackle that I picked up in the clearance bin! Score!

The last color I picked up at Sally was Orly Blue Collar, which is a robin's egg blue cream.  The rest of this haul is from Walmart.  I was finally able to find Revlon Scandalous after months of searching for it!  It's so pretty! I can understand why it has been out of stock for months in all the stores that I shop at! While I was at Walmart I found a bunch of NYC polishes that had 50 cent off coupons on them so I snatched them up, cause it isn't very often that you can get polish for under a dollar a bottle! NYC Starry Silver Glitter is a clear gel base with blue and purple large chunky glitter and small silver glitter.  NYC Broadway Burgundy Frost is a red glitter.  It kind of reminds me of ruby red slippers.  Plaza Plumberry is a dark purple eggplant color.  French White Tip is your typical white cream polish.

The last five polishes are from NYC's Dry in a NY Minute collection.  NYC Tribeca Silver is a metallic silver.  NYC Park Ave is a beautiful mauve color.  NYC Pier 17 is a metallic royal blue.  NYC East Village is a metallic aqua color. NYC Matte Me Crazy is a quick drying matte top coat.  I was really excited to find a cheap matte top coat.  They can be hard to come by sometimes.

I will have swatches of many of these polishes for you all very soon!

Grey Leopard Design

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to give you all a how to for the gray leopard design that is shown in the picture above.  For this design I used Ulta Concrete Evidence for the background color, Ulta Smoke Screen for the leopard spots, and a Nicole by OPI Nail Art Pen in Black for the accents around the spots.  The is a very versatile design that can be done with any color combination that you have.  It is also very easy to do for those of you who are only starting to dabble in nail art!

Leopard How to:

1.  Paint your nail the background color of your desire and apply as many coats as you feel is needed.

2. After background coat has dried use the tip of the brush of your spot color to create different shaped spots on your nails.

3.  After the spots have dried use a nail art pen or a tooth pick dipped in black polish to create accent lines around your spots.  The best way to do this is to make two C shapes around each spot and make sure that they do not touch.  The great thing is that the lines do  not need to be perfect, in fact they look more realistic if they are not. You can also add a few more smaller spots if you think it works with your design.

Review: Claire's Magnetix Polish in Green

Hello! Happy Oscar Sunday!  I went to the local mall today and ended up picking up two bottles of the Claire's brand Magnetix polish.  I got the Green and Pink colors.  They do not have actual names on them so I will just refer to them my their color.

Magnetic polish seems to be the newest nail trend, and I can understand why... it's really freaking cool!  How it works is the wet nail polish reacts to the magnet and create these cool designs on the nails.  I have seen many brands come out with this recently but I decided that I would buy the ones from Claire's because I had heard good reviews, and also all of their cosmetics are buy one get one half off! (woohoo for saving money!)

That is what the Green Magnetix's polish looks like on my nails.  I really love it! It reminds me of a watermelon rind.  When you put it on your nails it looks like a light metallic green and the magnet gives it these beautiful dark stripes that have a lot of depth.  I followed the instructions on the cap of  the bottle, but the only thing I did differently was I applied one coat of the polish and let it dry.  Then I put on a second coat and then used the magnet to make the design.  I found that it makes the design more defined.  Overall I really like this polish and for $8.50 a bottle I think that it is a great bargain compared to some of the other brands that I have seen.  You can find the polish at Claire's.  Pink Magnetix's review and swatches coming soon!

Swatch Comparison: OPI Teenage Dream v. Pure Ice Spit Fire

As a college student I am always trying to save money where ever I can.  One of the ways that I do is this by trying to find dupes for popular colors that come from popular brands.  While sometimes there is nothing like a name brand nail polish color I really enjoy trying to see if I can find good dupes for colors.  Its kind of a sport for me.

Today I have swatched two colors that I thought looked very similar in the bottle.  One of the polishes is one of my all time favorites OPI Teenage Dream.  The other polish is Pure Ice Spit Fire which I just picked up at Walmart yesterday.  While they look extremely similar in the bottle, I could still see some minor differences.  For example the glitter in Spit Fire is not as large as Teenage Dream.

With the first coat that I did on my nail wheel the biggest difference that I noticed was that the gel base of Spit Fire was not a pink as the base to Teenage Dream.  But the Glitter look very simialr, right down to the holographic glitters that both polishes have.

After two coats the biggest difference that I could see was still the same as from the first coat, not as pink. But overall I feel that Pure Ice Spit Fire is a fairly good dupe for OPI Teenage Dream.  While they are not exactly the same Spit Fire has all the same elements that made me fall in love with Teenage Dream.  If you missed Teenage Dream when it came out last year deffinately check out Spit Fire.  You can find Spit Fire at Walmart.

Flower Power!

I figured for my first nail art related post I would show you  one of my all time favorite nail art designs. For this design I used Color Club Poker Face for the red fingers and the flowers, Ulta Noel for the background on the designed nails, China Glaze Holly-Day for the flower leaves, and Kiss Nail Art Paint in White for the accents in the flower's.  The great thing about this design is that can be recreated with any colors that you choose.  I choose a red/ pink theme in honor of Valentines day.

To Recreate this design:
1. Paint nail a light background color.
2. After it is dry take your darker flower color and with the tip of the polish brush place 2 - 3 dots on the nail depending on size of your nail.
3. Using a small brush or the tip of a nail file place 2-3 small green leaves around your flower dots.
4. Draw some accent lines with a thin brush within the flowers to give them a rose like look.

I hope you enjoy this cute design!  It is even simple enough for all of those who are just starting out with nail art!
